Policies
Trial Lessons
Prospective private students are encouraged to attend a half hour trial lesson prior to committing to a block of lessons.
The Trial Lesson Fee is the same as a 30 minute private lesson.
Instruction Fees
Instruction will be given in monthly blocks of lessons and are due and payable on the first week of each month.
Lessons are given in the studio in Pacific Grove, or online.
KiddyKeys and My First Piano Adventures are semester classes, payment can be done in full at the beginning of the semester, or in monthly installments. These classes progress together as a group through the curriculum, so a semester commitment is encouraged.
There is a $35 recital fee per family for students participating in studio recitals.
Charter Schools
We are vendors with Ocean Grove Charter School and Yosemite Valley Charter School. Homeschooling families can set up a purchase order through their school for private or group classes. Books and recital fees must be paid directly by the family.
Books and Music
We've partnered with The Bookmark music store in PG, and have a display of music for sale in the studio! Now when students need a new music book they can purchase it directly from the studio without having to go to the store to get it. We will automatically add it to your monthly invoice when needed. Students get what they need with no delay, and we’re supporting a great local music store.
Practice
Parental involvement at home is essential. Even if you aren't musically trained yourself, just being present to keep your child on task and to make sure they are doing everything on their assignment list is extremely helpful. There is a noticeable difference when parents are actively involved in their child’s practice time.
Students must have either a piano or a digital piano with 88 weighted keys at home for daily practice; percussion students must have instruments either at home or accessible at school for practice.
KiddyKeys students do not need a piano at home, but it's encouraged.
Terms and Conditions
Private Lessons canceled at least 24 hours before the scheduled lesson time will result in a make-up credit. Please log into Opus1.io to cancel the lesson, you will then have a make up credit that you can schedule through Opus1.io. A maximum of 2 lessons may be rescheduled per month, and are subject to availability and therefore not guaranteed. Unused make-up credits will expire after 30 days. Lessons canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged with no make-up credit issued.
Group classes follow the same cancellation policy, but make-up classes are subject to availability in an alternate class.
Parents are responsible for canceling and rescheduling lessons and group classes in Opus1.io.
Lessons canceled by the teacher will result in a credit toward your next month’s lesson fees, or a make-up lesson.
If a private student is feeling sick, but well enough to have an online lesson, we can easily switch to an online lesson for a week or two. No need to come into the studio if you or your child is feeling ill!
There is no refund of fees. Your payment reserves your space for the month or semester (depending on your payment plan).
No refunds will be given for partial months or semesters.
Students’ siblings present during lessons must be supervised by their parent/guardian at all times to minimize distraction.
